Stripping bark from a raw live edge black walnut slab in the Black Walnut Co. shop.
The Blackstone Console Table, a live edge black walnut top on black Curva steel legs.

The slabs I start with are rarely pretty. The hard part is seeing what they could become.

Tables, benches and things for the table

Not ready for a table? Start with something smaller.

Same walnut, same shop, same hands. A plant stand, a board or a set of coasters is a good way to live with the work before you commission something bigger.

04About

One maker. One shop. One contact.

I spent years in sales. The customers who stayed didn't stay for the price. They stayed because I solved their problems, even when it cost me the sale. They trusted me. That's what they were buying.

Black Walnut Co. is the same approach. Live edge furniture, grown nearby and shaped in Rhode Island. Made to order, start to finish, by one maker.

My favorite part is the end: the final finish goes on, I buff the piece to a full shine, and the grain comes up. That's when a slab becomes something worth keeping.

Every piece also has to work. A console that holds your keys. A bench people actually sit on. A serving board that goes to the table. Use it. Keep it.

What you can count on

  • Prices and lead times in writing, before you ask.
  • You approve the slab before I cut it.
  • I'll tell you what real wood does before you order it.
  • A one-year warranty against defects in my craftsmanship.
  • Fully insured, with a certificate of insurance available on request.

If you need it by Tuesday, I'm probably not your guy. If you want something that lasts a lifetime, let's talk.

Jim, Black Walnut Co.
